Terms of participation

These terms apply to registration, the season, showcases and the use of www.lbx.org. They should be read with the privacy notice. Last updated 1 September 2026.

Eligibility and original work

You confirm that the age, identity and team facts on the form are true, and that work you submit is yours except where you have named someone else. Mentors, teachers and tools may help; they may not impersonate you. Plagiarism, fabricated data, undisclosed substantial AI generation, or submitting the same package to two LBX tracks in one season are grounds for removal and, if an award was issued, for a revoked registry entry.

Conduct and safeguarding

Participants, mentors and visitors treat each other as colleagues. Harassment, private unlogged meetings with minors, and any attempt to pressure a judge are prohibited. Safeguarding reports go to safeguarding@lbx.org. We may remove someone from a room or from the season if we believe a person is at risk.

Fees, travel and venues

Fees and refunds follow the apply page. Travel, lodging and visas are yours except where a grant is awarded in writing. Showcase buildings have their own house rules; you follow them. LBX does not promise that a named university is an official host.

Intellectual property and publicity

You keep copyright and other rights in your work. You grant LBX a non-exclusive licence to copy, display and archive the submission for judging, the showcase page (if you opt in) and the certificate registry. Photo and name use on the public day follows the consent box. We will not invent named student winners in marketing copy.

Certificates

An award certificate is a record in the registry and, sometimes, a signed file. Neither is a university credential. Verify at verify/index.html or, for checksum files, at cert/verify.html. Staff issuing pages are not public. We may revoke a certificate after an integrity review; the registry will then say so.

Websites, liability, law

The site is provided as static information. Links to ISEF, Conrad, FIRST and other programmes on The Field are descriptive; those organisations run their own rules. To the extent allowed by law, LBX is not liable for travel disruption, lost prototypes, or indirect loss. These terms are governed by the law of the hub you selected, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protections where you live. Disputes that cannot be resolved by the committee may be brought in the ordinary courts of that hub’s city.

Practical consequences

If you break the original-work rule, the likely path is a review and, if needed, a revoked certificate rather than a lawsuit. If you harass another participant, the likely path is removal from the room and from the season. If a prototype damages a venue, you (or a guardian) may be asked to cover reasonable repair; that is why hazardous work is out of bounds and why drones need two weeks’ notice. If you republish your own report after the season, you may; the licence you gave us is non-exclusive. If a journalist asks for a finalist’s contact, we ask the student (and guardian if under 18) first.

Nothing on this website is legal advice for entering Regeneron ISEF, FIRST, Conrad Challenge or any other programme. Those organisations publish their own terms. Linking to them on The Field does not make us their agent. Nothing here promises a scholarship, a visa, or a place at a university. Travel grants, when awarded, are written as grants, not as prizes you can list as income unless your own tax advice says otherwise.

We may update these terms between seasons. Material changes will be mailed to the address on the form. Continuing through a checkpoint after that mail is acceptance of the new text. If you cannot accept a change, you may withdraw; refunds follow the apply page.
